Piles is a disease where the person suffering from it has swollen veins and muscles around their anus or the anal canal. We have a short anal canal
which is a muscular tube that connects our rectum with the anus. Piles is often considered to be a result of constipated motions which can cause the tissues to swell.
Sometimes, when these tissues get damaged, there is a chance that they may bleed. Usually, people suffer from piles after the age of 45 but it can also develop during pregnancy.
Piles can be internal or external. When the swellings start inside the anal canal then it is known as internal piles, it may still be visible externally, when they hang
down from the anus. Depending on how far the piles have come out from the anus, they are classified as first, second, third and fourth degree internal piles; where the
first is the mildest form of the problem, people who suffer from fourth degree internal piles find it very painful. On the other hand, external piles is the condition where the piles is closer to the anus.

Doctors check piles by checking with the patient for symptoms and then examining the patients. The examination involves
checking the rectum for lumps by inserting a gloved finger in the anus of the patient. Some doctors may use a proctoscope during the examination.
A proctoscope is short and narrow so that it can easily glide inside the anus. The doctor may consider further tests which may include blood tests depending on the intensity of piles that you are suffering from.
