Treatment for Tonsillitis

Now a days infections due to virus and bacteria have become very common and tonsillitis is one among them. Tonsillitis is a condition which is raised when Tonsils which acts as natural combatants of our body gets infected and this condition is very common among children. What is Tonsillitis?

Tonsils, as we are well aware, are part of our immune system and prevent several infections and allergies by producing antibodies. These tonsils are the lumps of tissues located way back of our throat. They trap the virus and bacteria coming through both mouth and nose and prevent them from entering our body. In this process, these tonsils also get affected and lead to a condition called tonsillitis. In tonsillitis, your tonsils become inflamed and sore. Tonsillitis is contagious and can spread from infected person to others easily. Tonsillitis is very common among children as they have low immunity and get easily affected in schools and other play areas. Even though it is common among children few elders also get affected with tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis can be of 3 types namely acute, recurrent and chronic. Acute tonsillitis is raised due to viral or bacterial infection and it lasts up to a week or 2. Recurrent tonsillitis is a condition where individuals suffer from acute tonsillitis many times in a year, whereas chronic tonsillitis raises when individual faces constant infection and sore throat and it also leads to tonsil stone formation. If not addressed properly, tonsillitis can lead to complications like the middle ear infection, obstructive sleep apnea, formation of pus between tonsil and throat wall and in few cases can also lead to scarlet fever.

Causes of Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis, as discussed earlier is mainly caused due to infection from virus and bacteria. Different viruses like adenovirus, rhinovirus, influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, coronavirus and herpes simplex virus cause tonsillitis. Bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, mycoplasma pneumonia, chlamydia pneumonia and other causes tonsillitis.
